Frequently Asked Questions

Kit Purpose & Selection

Can I customize the contents of my kit?

Marine Elite kits use defined configurations so the contents, price, and checkout record remain consistent. For a specialized requirement, contact support@marineelite.us before ordering.

How do I choose the right kit for my boat?

Choose based on your normal operating range and how long professional response may take: Nearshore for closer-to-shore operations, Coastal for broader coastal cruising, and Offshore for extended-range or remote-water operations.

Does the Coast Guard require a first-aid or trauma kit on a recreational boat?

The U.S. Coast Guard's federal recreational-boat equipment guide does not list a general first-aid or trauma kit as mandatory carriage gear. Requirements can vary by vessel, activity and state, so check the rules for your trip. Carrying an accessible, maintained kit and knowing how to use its contents are prudent preparation, not a universal federal requirement.

Should I carry a tourniquet on my boat?

A tourniquet may be a sensible part of a bleeding-control kit where traumatic limb injuries are possible. Carrying one is not a blanket federal requirement for recreational boats. Take a Stop the Bleed or comparable course so you understand when and how to use your supplies, and contact emergency services or the Coast Guard in an emergency. Equipment does not replace trained care.

Stop the Bleed training

How is a trauma kit different from an everyday first-aid kit?

Everyday first-aid kits often cover minor cuts and routine care. A trauma kit is organized around serious injuries, particularly severe bleeding, and may include a tourniquet, gauze, dressings, gloves and shears. Contents vary by product: check the itemized kit page rather than assuming any particular brand or device is included. Neither kit replaces training, emergency communication or professional care.

How should I prepare for cold-water exposure and hypothermia?

Check the weather and water temperature before leaving, dress for the water rather than only the air, and choose suitable flotation and thermal protection for your trip. File a float plan, carry reliable communication and alerting gear, and learn cold-water survival and first aid. If someone is exposed, summon emergency assistance promptly; a kit alone cannot prevent hypothermia or guarantee an outcome.

Why plan for propeller injuries aboard?

Propeller strikes can cause serious wounds, so prevention comes first: keep people clear of the propeller, follow safe boarding and operation practices, and use appropriate safety equipment. Know how to summon help, carry recommended first-aid supplies and get bleeding-control training. No kit can prevent a propeller strike or guarantee that an injury can be managed without emergency care.

What should I carry for an offshore boating trip?

Verify the equipment legally required for your vessel and route, including properly fitted PFDs for everyone. Consider reliable VHF communication, an appropriate emergency beacon, navigation and weather information, a float plan, personal medications, and accessible first-aid and bleeding-control supplies. Additional gear such as a life raft depends on conditions. Obtain training; no single kit replaces emergency communications or professional response.

Warranty & Quality

What is the warranty on Marine Elite first aid kits?

Coverage, exclusions, and claim steps are listed in the current Warranty Policy. The policy is marked as a draft pending final legal review, so contact support@marineelite.us if you need clarification before ordering.

How do I know if my kit is still effective?

Inspect each component’s manufacturer label and expiration date regularly. Replace a component by its labeled expiration date or if it is damaged; replacement timing differs by component.

What should I do if an item in my kit is expired?

Do not rely on an expired component. Review the refill packs currently listed on the site or contact support@marineelite.us for help identifying a replacement.

Are Marine Elite kits designed for marine environments?

Marine Elite organizes its kit configurations around marine storage and response conditions. Refer to the current product page for the exact case, contents, and specifications included with each kit.
